Am. Malek et H. Saadatmanesh, On the analysis and design of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with FRP laminates, AR J SCI EN, 23(2C), 1998, pp. 167-182
Flexural and shear strength of reinforced concrete beams can be effectively
increased by bonding a composite plate to the tension face or web of the b
eam. The plate undergoes tensile stresses and resists opening of the cracks
. In this paper, experimental and analytical study of concrete beams streng
thened with epoxy bonded fiber composite plate or fabric is reviewed. Guide
lines and equations are also presented for flexural strengthening of concre
te beams. Different modes of failure such as compression crushing of concre
te, rupture of the plate and local shear failure have been considered in th
e development of the guidelines. The effect of web-bonded composite plate o
n the shear strength of the concrete beam is also discussed.
