Injecting water and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) solution simulates the mixing
process in impinging jet sprays of liquid oxidizer and liquid fuel for bot
h symmetric and asymmetric cases. Liquid sheets are visualized, and the mix
ing behaviors of two streams are measured by collecting droplets using samp
ling cells. The mixing characteristics between the two liquids are investig
ated by the acid-base titration technique. For nearly symmetric impinging j
ets, stable liquid sheets are formed and the two liquid jet are well mired.
Similarity inflow rate distribution at various measuring heights is mainta
ined. For asymmetric impinging jets, liquid sheets become unstable as the d
ifference in jet velocity increases. bl some extreme cases, liquid sheets a
re not formed and the jets are separated. Dimensionless variables are adopt
ed, demonstrating similarity in flow and mixing distribution. Model predict
ions agree reasonably with experimental results.
