Mononuclear Cu(II), Fe(III), and Mn(II) complexes with 4',5'-bis(salicylide
neimino)benzo-15-crown-5, (SALH(2)), were characterized by elemental analys
is, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and tested spectrometrically as catalysts fo
r superoxide disproportionation by utilizing xanthine-xanthine oxidase (XXO
) assays. The results indicate that the examined mononuclear com complexes
are speculative potent superoxide dismutase mimics. (C) 1999 Elsevier Scien
