The rate of decrease of luminous efficiency with increasing electron dose i
n P-1-type phosphor can be significantly reduced by coating the individual
phosphor particles with similar to 200 Angstrom of SiO2. The coated P-1 pho
sphor requires an electron dose roughly fives times greater than the uncoat
ed phosphor to reduce the luminious efficiency to one-half of its initial v
