The content and distribution of zinc in soils of the Transbaikal region hav
e been examined. The bulk content of zinc in soils depends on its concentra
tion in soil-forming rocks and on the content of clay fraction. The soils o
f the northern Dart of the region (within taiga and forest-steppe zones) co
ntain amounts of zinc two times lower than the soils of steppe and dry step
pe zones. The deficiency of available zinc in soils dictates its low concen
tration in plants. In this connection, the efficiency of adding zinc-contai
ning micronutrients to the soils of the region is very high, as proved by s
pecial agrochemical experiments.
