For topical treatment of canine pyoderma and seborrhea, benzoyl peroxi
de is widely used in veterinary dermatology as an antibacterial, antis
eborrhoic and antipruritic agent. The pharmacological efficacy was sho
wn by experimental studies. Clinical studies demonstrate the therapeut
ic efficacy and the systemic and local tolerance of benzoyl peroxide.
The results of these studies as well as the pharmacokinetics of topica
lly administered benzoyl peroxide are described.
