The rate of phenol degradation in aqueous solution was shown to depend on p
henol concentration, time of discharge treatment of the liquid, contact tim
e of the carrier gas with the liquid, and power input to the discharge. The
maximum degree of phenol degradation in aqueous solution is 73%. Main orga
nic compounds produced by degradation are formaldehyde and monocarboxylic a
cids. In addition, ozone and nitrogen oxides were detected in the gas phase
, and ozone and ammonium, nitrite, and nitrate ions were found in the liqui
d phase.
