Jg. Hammer, USE OF A SEMIQUANTITATIVE CANINE PROGESTERONE TEST KIT IN THE DOMESTIC CAT, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 30(1), 1994, pp. 50-53
Feline serum progesterone concentrations were evaluated using a commer
cially available, semi-quantitative, canine serum progesterone test ki
t. The results from the test kit are reported in three ranges: less-th
an 1 ng/ml, 1 to 5 ng/ml, or greater than 5 ng/ml. The results were co
mpared to quantitative results obtained from an outside laboratory. Th
e test kit had a specificity of 95% and a sensitivity of 96% when comp
ared to the laboratory results. The test kit was quick and easy to run
. The author concludes that the commercial canine progesterone test ki
t can be used effectively in the cat for semi-quantitative evaluation
of serum progesterone concentrations.
