Gk. Ogilvie et al., PREVALENCE OF ANAPHYLAXIS ASSOCIATED WITH THE INTRAMUSCULAR ADMINISTRATION OF L-ASPARAGINASE TO 81 DOGS WITH CANCER - 1989-1991, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 30(1), 1994, pp. 62-65
Eighty-one dogs with histologically confirmed, measurable, malignant t
umors were used in a prospective study to determine the prevalence of
anaphylaxis associated with the intramuscular (IM) administration of 2
32 dosages of L-asparaginase (10,000 U/m2), an antineoplastic agent de
rived from Escherichia coli. None of the dogs exhibited any clinical s
igns associated with anaphylaxis. A partial or complete remission (gre
ater than 50% reduction volume reduction) was obtained in 31 of 39 dog
s (79%) with lymphoma that were given L-asparaginase prior to other ch
emotherapeutic agents.
