Yc. Chen et al., The strategies of traffic control for multimedia data transmission with QoS guarantees over CATV network, IEEE CONS E, 45(1), 1999, pp. 107-117
The purpose of this paper is to design a flexible and efficient architectur
e called Priority Based Cable Network (PBCN) architecture for realtime mult
imedia transmission with QoS guarantees over multi-channel CATV and ATM net
work. We dedicate to let the traffic types bwtween CATV and ATM network whi
ch can cooperate well. As we know, both the "upstream" and "downstream" are
shared media, and the data collision can occur without any flow control. W
e found that the efficient way to avoid the collision is under the control
of MAC (Medium Access Control) layer protocol. It is the reason why we will
introduce our Enhanced Priority Based Non-Blocking Ternary Tree Splitting
Algorithm, which is based on the IEEE 802.14 working group, to improve the
efficiency of contention process and to decrease the chance of collision in
the upstream. This paper proposes a Connection Admission and Flow Control
(CAFC) server including a QoS negotiation component and a Priority Based Fl
ow Control (PBFC) module. We also distinguish the data streams with differe
nt priorities across different channels by the CAFC server. Finally, we giv
e some attractive simulation results to show the efficient performance of t
he network architecture which is proposed in this paper.
