Titanium hydrides TiH1.99, TiH1.89, TiH1.60, and deuteride TiD1.99 were syn
thesized and studied using DTA and DSC techniques in the temperature range
80-600 K. The results were compared with the previously reported H-1 NMR da
ta for TiH1.99. In addition to the known f.c.c.-f.c.t. transformation at 29
0-300 K, a new transformation of the second kind was found in TiH2-x near 4
50 K. The results obtained do not confirm the appreciable occupancy of octa
hedral interstices by hydrogen atoms in titanium hydride. (C) 1999 Internat
