Spatial current distribution inside the switch region of a plasma opening switch with coaxial configuration

The spatial current distribution in the switch region of a plasma opening s witch (POS) with coaxial configuration was observed using pick-up coils. Th ree pick-up coils were positioned along the axial direction of the conducto r in the switch region. From experimental results, it was found that the co nduction starts at generator side of the switch region, and current is tran sferred from the generator side to the load side in the opening operation d uring conduction operation. Also, it is possible that the spatial current d istribution formed just after or before the opening operation at the load e nd of the switch region strongly affects the efficiency of energy transfer toward the load.
