Abstract
N-Benzylidenebenzenesulfonamide was shown to be a useful benzaldehyde equivalent in the Knoevenagel Reaction for cyana - containing active m ethylene compunds. The intermediate beta-N-benzenesulfonylamino carbon yl derivatives from other active methylene compounds failed to undergo elimination.
