G. Benporat et D. Givoli, SOLUTION OF UNBOUNDED DOMAIN PROBLEMS USING ELLIPTIC ARTIFICIAL BOUNDARIES, Communications in numerical methods in engineering, 11(9), 1995, pp. 735-741
Exact non-local boundary conditions are derived and used on an artific
ial boundary to solve the two-dimensional Laplace and Helmholtz equati
ons in an unbounded domain. The artificial boundary is chosen to be an
ellipse, as opposed to previous works which employed circular boundar
ies. The use of elliptic artificial boundaries enables one to enclose
slender obstacles very efficiently, especially in the case of Laplace'
s equation.
