M. Steiner et al., ACCEPTABILITY OF SPERMICIDAL FILM AND FOAMING TABLETS AMONG WOMEN IN 3 COUNTRIES, International family planning perspectives, 21(3), 1995, pp. 104-107
A convenience sample of 162 family planning clients in Kenya, the Domi
nican Republic and Mexico provided data for an evaluation of the accep
tability of two woman-controlled contraceptive methods that may also p
rovide disease protection. Women significantly preferred contraceptive
film over foaming tablets at two sites: In Kenya, 86% of participants
said they would rather use the film and 14%, the tablets; in Mexico,
these proportions were 58% and 30%, respectively. Although a slight ma
jority of women in the Dominican Republic preferred the film also, abo
ut one-half of participants there and in Mexico complained that the fi
lm sometimes stuck to their fingers during insertion.
