Abstract
It is shown that the icosahedral phase of FeTi2 can be obtained as the result of a reconstructive transformation of the displacive type from its crystalline fcc phase. The transformation mechanism is an inhomog eneous deformation of the fcc structure which can be associated with f our systems of incommensurate density waves.
