Abstract
A dual-frequency strip-sleeve monopole antenna for mobile handheld units ha s been designed that operates in both frequency bands allocated for wireles s communication. The bandwidth of the antenna is 19.3 and 11.2% for AMPS an d PCS bands, respectively with VSWR less than or equal to 2. These bandwidt hs are practically unchanged in the proximity of the user's head. Relevant characteristics of the designed antenna have been analyzed with and without the presence of the user's head using the finite-difference time-domain (F DTD) method. The resultant deposition of the microwave power in the user's head, called the specific absorption rate (SAR) has also been calculated. ( C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
