Pl. Hammersley et al., THE USE OF NEAR-INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY TO RECLASSIFY HR-8881, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 266(3), 1994, pp. 678-680
We demonstrate that near-infrared CVF spectrometry can be used to dete
rmine accurately the spectral type and luminosity class of K- and M-ty
pe stars. As an example, we show that the spectral type and luminosity
class of the star HR 8881 given in the fourth edition of the Bright S
tar Catalogue are in error. HR 8881 is an M giant, probably in the ran
ge M2-3III, and not a type-K dwarf as listed.
