The interaction of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) with an array of parallel
quantum wires (QWRs) is considered. To account for the screening of the SAW
by the electrons in the QWRs the dielectric matrix formalism was used. If
one compares our results with the experimental findings, one can conclude t
hat the role of the magnetic field goes beyond a simple tuning of the subba
