We have measured low frequency Raman spectra in Ge chalcogenide glasses. Th
e dependence of spectral dimensionality of stretching fracton, (d) over til
de(s), on the sample composition is obtained from low frequency reduced Ram
an spectrum and is correctly correlated to the actual network dimensionalit
y of Ge chalcogenide glasses. The value of (d) over tilde(s) is supposed to
be a parameter representing the degree of localization of lattice vibratio
ns and an indicator of network dimensionality of network glasses. The findi
ngs on the interpretation of (d) over tilde(s) should be applied in future
research of disordered systems. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights r
