Abstract
The phonon spectrum for isolated nanoparticles is expected to become discre te with a gap opening up at very low frequencies. In this paper we investig ate the effect of the modified phonon spectrum on the relaxation of closely spaced electronic levels. We compare the results for nanoparticles with th ose for larger (similar to mu m) size particles with the same crystal struc ture. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
