We report on measurements of thermal conductivity of a series of eight GaAs
/AlAs superlattices. A picosecond optics technique was used to determine th
e conductivity kappa. The conductivity in all samples was found to decrease
monotonically throughout the temperature range 100-375 K. There was a gene
ral decrease in kappa c with reduction in the superlattice period, and for
the superlattices with the shortest period kappa at room temperature was re
duced by a factor of 10 compared to bulk GaAs. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.
