We present first principles calculations of the real part of the self energ
y for the transverse optical phonon at the Brillouin rone center in GaAs. T
he various contributions at zero temperature ape analyzed and discussed. Ou
r result for the temperature dependence of the real part of the phonon self
energy is in good agreement with the available experimental data. (C) 1999
