Solid-state MAS NMR spectra of benzyldimethyl(isopropyl)ammonium bromi
de 1 show evidence of a high activation energy for rotation of one of
the N-methyl groups (E(a) = 28 kJ mol(-1)) whilst a powder X-ray diffr
action study of 1 shows that one of the N-methyl groups is indeed exce
ptionally hindered in the solid.
