Primary lymphomas of the central nervous system (CNS) contribute only 1 to
2% of all lymphomas and 0.5 to 1% of all CNS tumors. Three cases are report
ed in patients admitted for intracranial hypertension and focal neurologic
signs. Computed tomography of the brain showed a space-occupying lesion in
all three cases. Location was a cerebral hemisphere in two eases and the op
tic chiasma in one. A surgical biopsy was done in all three cases, and hist
ologic findings indicated a B-cell lymphoma. Staging investigations were ne
gative. Two patients had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The diagnosis and p
rognosis of primary CNS lymphomas are discussed.
