SYNTHESIS AND REACTIVITY IN INORGANIC AND METAL-ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
A series of new mixed-ligand saccharin complexes of Co, Ni, Cu and Zn with
1,10-phenantroline, phenylhydrazine and benzidine have been prepared and ch
aracterized by elemental analysis magnetic moments, spectral and thermal an
alysis techniques. 1,10-Phenantroline and phenylhydrazine are coordinated t
o the metal ions as chelating ligands through their two N atoms, while benz
idine acts a monodentate ligand. The metal ions usually have octahedral geo
metry with two saccharinate anions in the trans positions and the coordinat
ing ligand in the cis positions. The complexes of Cu(II) saccharinates with
phenylhydrazine and benzidine exhibit bimetallic dimeric structures with C
u-Cu bonds.
