Abstract
Complexes of biacetylmonoxime phenylacetylhydrazone (H2BMPH) with Co(II), C o(III), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II) and UO2(VI) have been prepared and character ized by chemical and thermal(TG, DTG, DTA) analyses, molar conductivities, spectral (IR, NMR, visible, UV) and magnetic moment measurements. Changes i n selected vibrational absorptions of the ligand upon coordination are disc ussed. The molar conductivities for the complexes lie in the non-electrolyt e range. Based on magnetic and spectroscopic data, the structures for the c omplexes are proposed as follows: octahedral for [Co(H2BMPH)(2)(OAc)] and [ Ni(HBMPH)(2)(H2O)(2)], tetrahedral for [Co(H2BMPH)Cl-2], square-planar for [Cu(HBMPH)Cl(H2O)], [Cu(BMPH)](2), [Ni(BMPH)](2) and Pd(II) complexes. TG, DTG and DTA data suggest a mechanism for degradation of the complexes which is a function of temperature. The solid [Co(HBMPH)(2)(OAc)] complex has a unique decomposition exotherm profile which can be used as a rapid and sens itive tool for the detection of an acetate containing complex.
