P. Ubbriaco et D. Calabrese, Solidification and stabilization of cement paste containing fly ash from municipal solid waste, THERMOC ACT, 321(1-2), 1998, pp. 143-150
DTA/TG analysis and XRD investigations were carried our on pastes of pozzol
anic cement and a mixture of pozzolanic cement and Rv ash from municipal so
lid waste in order to examine their relative hydration processes. The prese
nce of hv ash. from a municipal solid waste incinerator. provoked in the fi
rst curing period the slowing of hydration reactions of calcium silicates o
f cement and formation of gypsum and ettringite. With the progress of hydra
tion in the pastes the calcium silicate hydrate phase developed and formati
on of calcium chloroaluminate was observed. The compressive strength of the
hardened pastes confirmed good solidification attained by die materials. T
he leaching test allowed the degree of stabilization of the fi! ash in the
hardened pastes to be determined. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
