Abstract
During the 1980s and 1990s, Korea has invested heavily in biotechnology res
earch and development, with the aim of becoming a leading nation in this fi
eld. It is important to understand the historical progress of this developm
ent in order to appreciate the current state of biotechology in Korea. Howe
ver, it is equally important to know what research is currently being plann
ed and carried out, and by whom.
