Rgw. Cherry, THE PROBABILISTIC APPROACH TO SAFETY - SUCCESS OR FAILURE, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Part G, Journal of aerospace engineering, 209(3), 1995, pp. 177-183
Numerical probabilities have been used as an aid to aircraft systems d
esign and safety analysis for some thirty years. This paper considers
the background to the philosophy, its current application and the bene
fits that might be gained from further developments. The approach is a
lso put into the context of other opportunities that might exist for s
eeking further enhancements to aircraft safety.
