Low back pain is one of the most common pain disorders. A structural l
esion can only be found in about 15% of all cases. The majority of pat
ients suffers from non-specific low back pain. Especially chronic low
back pain is a considerable economical cost factor due to cost of trea
tment, loss of productivity and early retirement. The analysis of risk
factors for the chronification of low back pain shows that psychosoci
al factors and behavioral patterns are of major importance. Patients w
ith chronic unspecific low back pain should be treated in an interdisc
iplinary setting considering the problem in its entirety.
