Abstract
Surface crystallization happened during ribbon production of metallic glass Fe71Ni3Cr4Si8B14 is studied by means of X-ray diffractometry, tr ansmission electron microscopy. differential scanning calorimetry, and Auger electron spectroscopy. Experimental results reveal that the as- produced ribbon has different structures for different layers. Crystal line phases are observed in both the contact side layer and the free s urface side layer, although the middle part of the ribbon is still amo rphous. The structures of the crystalline phases are determined by mea ns of electron diffraction.
