In 2,6-dimethylphenyl 4-nitrophenyl sulfone, C14H13NO4S, (I), 2,6-dime
thylphenyl 4-methylphenyl sulfone, C15H16O2S, (II), and 2-methylphenyl
phenyl sulfone, C13H12O2S, (III), the S atoms have distorted tetrahed
ral bonding geometry. In each compound, the phenyl rings are nearly pe
rpendicular to each other [dihedral angles: 80.0(I) in (I), 89.6(1) in
(II) and 78.9(1)degrees in (III)].
