A net absorption of sodium was observed under control conditions in wh ole trachea, Luminal amiloride inhibited the net absorption of sodium. Luminal amiloride inhibited the transepithelial potential difference across the isolated trachea. Submucosal ouabain inhibited the net abso rption of sodium. Submucosal ouabain inhibited the transepithelial pot ential difference across the isolated trachea. Short-circuited fiat sh eets of trachea manifested a net absorption of sodium. Serosal ouabain inhibited short-circuit current and net sodium flux across isolated f lat sheets of trachea.
