Abstract
The collision-induced dissociation process in He + H-2 is Studied quan tum mechanically using the infinite-order sudden approximation. The di ssociation cross sections for the initial vibrational states nu = 0-9 are reported in a wide range of the total energy 5-10 eV and the rate constants are calculated in the temperature range 1000-10000 K. The di ssociation cross sections are strongly dependent on nu. It is found th at the details of interaction potential strongly affect the dissociati on dynamics for low nu. The reliability of the classical trajectory me thod is discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
