M. Brossard, THE USE OF VACCINES AND GENETICALLY RESISTANT ANIMALS IN TICK CONTROL, Revue scientifique et technique - Office international des epizooties, 17(1), 1998, pp. 188-199
The control of ticks and diseases transmitted by ticks is extremely di
fficult. Application of acaricides is the most common prophylactic and
therapeutic control measure against these ectoparasites. The selectio
n of tick strains which are resistant to these products, the appearanc
e of chemical residues in milk and meat, and environmental pollution r
esulting from the use of acaricides pose real problems. This article d
eals with aspects of current work on the alternative control of ticks
and places special emphasis an the development of vaccines and the uti
lisation of genetically resistant animals.
