Sg. Chen et al., ERROR SOURCE DIAGNOSTICS USING A TURNING PROCESS SIMULATOR, Journal of manufacturing science and engineering, 120(2), 1998, pp. 409-416
To improve productivity and quality in machining, it is necessary to u
nderstand the interactions among machine tool components and the cutti
ng process. This paper presents a model that characterizes interaction
s among the subsystems of a computer numerically controlled (CNC) lath
e. The model is combined with a cutting force model to obtain a compre
hensive turning simulator that simulates the cutting farces and part d
imensions. A series of calibration experiments are proposed and implem
ented for process simulation. The simulation results are good when com
pared with experimental measurements. The interactions among the subun
its of a CNC lathe and the cutting process are found to be potentially
important.
