Meningeal carcinomatosis is the diffuse infiltration of the meninges b
y metastatic carcinoma. Patients usually have a known underlying malig
nancy, but primary presentation can he with symptoms of meningeal invo
lvement. The cases are reported of two patients who presented with sen
sorineural hearing loss. The roles of gadolinium-enhanced magnetic res
onance imaging and cerebrospinal fluid cytology in reaching the diagno
sis are discussed.
