THE FREE TRAM FLAP

The transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap has become th e well-accepted method for breast reconstruction using autogenous tiss ue. The free TRAM flap allows one to perform this procedure with minim um complications because of the improved blood supply. The design of t he flap, which is based on the deep inferior Epigastric vessel, also a voids sacrifice to the abdominal wall. The flap is especially well sui ted for immediate reconstruction after mastectomy.
