Abstract
Using the method of elementary cuts [5], we deduce relations between t
he Wiener number of a phenylene (PH) and the catacondensed benzenoid h
ydrocarbon associated in a natural way to PH, called the hexagonal squ
eeze (HS). Similar relations are found also for the Szeged numbers of
PH and HS.
