Abstract
We demonstrate that Alfven waves may be the convenient trigger for the formation of transport barriers in tokamaks. Kinetic or slow Alfven w aves, which have small radial localizations, can be used to create str ongly sheared plasma flows at any point of the plasma minor radius to suppress the plasma turbulence and to obtain the locally reversed magn etic shear configuration.
