Abstract
The edge pressure-gradient (H-mode pedestal) for computed equilibria i n which the current density profile is consistent with the bootstrap c urrent may not be limited by the first-regime ballooning limit. The tr ansition to second stability is easier for higher elongation, intermed iate triangularity, larger aspect ratio, pedestal at larger radius, na rrower pedestal width, higher q(95), and lower collisionality.
