We investigate coherence effects in the deuteron spin structure functi
ons g(1)(d) and b(1). In the kinematic domain of current fixed target
experiments we observe that shadowing effects in g(1)(d) are approxima
tely twice as large as for the unpolarized structure function F-2(d).
Furthermore, we find that b(1) is large at x < 0.1 and receives domina
nt contributions from coherent double scattering.
