THE REACTION OF P-PHENYLENEDIAMINE WITH A DICHLORO-TRIAZIN-S-YL REACTIVE DYE - SELECTIVE MONOACYLATION

Selective acylation of a symmetrical diamine with a dichlorotriazinyl reactive dye would enable novel bis-monochlorotriazinyl dyes to be syn thesised, and facilitate the manipulation of dye sunstantivity and hue . We have succeeded in monoacylating p-phenylenediamine, in acid solut ion, with the dichlorotriazinyl dye CI Reactive Red 1 in high yield. N o bis-acylated product was observed by highperformance liquid chromato graphy. Further reaction of the monoacylated product, with a different dichlorotriazinyl compound, yielded a novel bis-monochlorotriazinyl d ye.
