Abstract
The basic objective of Q-mode factor analysis, a multivariate statisti cal technique based on the interrelation between samples, is classific ation of a suite of samples characterized by a large number of variabl es. The technique has been applied in modeling the microstructural het erogeneity present in a naturally occurring complex material. Signific ance of results is discussed with regard to the classification of mult icomponent multiphase materials in general. (C) Elsevier Science Inc., 1998.
