Abstract
A series of experiments were conducted for braced, elliptical tubes wi th semi-axes ratios, bla, ranging from 0.5 to 2 to verify the theoreti cal analysis results presented in a companion paper (Wu and Carney, In t. J. Mech. Sci., 1996). In that paper, mathematical models and finite element analyses (ABAQUS (Hibbitt, Karlsson and Sorensen, Inc. ABAQUS Manual, Version 5.3)) were employed to study the initial collapse beh avior of braced elliptical tubes. These mathematical and numerical pre dictions are compared with experimental results in this paper. (C) 199 8 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
