C. Pierardfranchimont et Ge. Pierard, THE WIDE AND DEEP EXCISION OF PRIMARY MALIGNANT-MELANOMA - A DOGMA ONTHE DECLINE, Acta Clinica Belgica, 53(2), 1998, pp. 98-99
For years, a wide and deep excision of primary cutaneous melanomas has
been recommended to achieve a better care and to decrease the risk of
local recurrence of the disease. However, recent studies indicate tha
t removal of peritumoral tissue beyond complete excision of the primar
y neoplasm does not decrease significantly the risk of local metastase
s. In addition, it confers no benefit to the patient survival.
