New mixed-ligand chelates of mercury(II) of the composition [Hg(CI) (A
-A) (L)], where (A-A)H = o-acetoacetotoluidide (OAATH) or o-acetoaceta
nisidide (OAAANH) and L = 3-methyl-pyrazoline-5-one (MP), 3-methyl-1-p
henyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one (MPHP), 2,3-dimethyl-4-methyl-aminomethane-su
lphonate sodium monohydrate-1-phenyl-3-pyrazoline-5-one (DMMASDHP), or
4-amino-2, 3-dimethyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrazoline-5-one (ADMPHP), have been
synthesized and characterised by analytical data, molar conductances,
magnetic measurements, TGA and H-1 N.M.R. and I.R. spectral studies.
The overall I.R. studies suggest that o-acetoacetotoluidide (OAATH)/o-
acetoacetanisidide (OAAANH) behave as monobasic bidentate oxygen donor
s and the 2- or 3-pyrazoline-5-one derivatives as monodentate oxygen d
onors. A tetrahedral structure has been proposed for these chelates.
