Abstract
Inverse gas chromatography (IGC) was applied to characterise a polypyr role surface in a capillary column, prepared in situ by chemical vapou r deposition. The free energies of adsorption, for a range of n-alkane s, n-alcohols and other polar samples were determined. Two solvation e quations were used to correlate the sample retention volumes with samp le parameters. The surface of the polypyrrole was found to exhibit a b asic nature that determined the interactions with polar volatile compo unds. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
