Abstract
The influence of temperature on the dynamic and static characteristics of unstable plastic flow due to the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect is i nvestigated experimentally and by numerical modeling. It is concluded that the distinctive features of the complex macroscopic behavior of t he plastic instability are determined by collective processes associat ed with the long-range interaction of dislocations and lead to dynamic effects of mesocopic scale, (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
